COVID and the Startup Rollercoaster

Life in a tech start-up is not like a timid teacup ride, it’s a wild and raging rollercoaster. In a flash, things can go from super fun & exciting to a bit scary and you think you might die – but it’s all part of the ride. When COVID-19 shut down the world and our customers (kind of like the sudden drop and corkscrew that nobody saw coming) we had to take a breath and consider what kind of opportunity this 'downtime' would give us.

Creativity and Covid-19

This sucks. It really does. Here at ELEMENTICE, we, and all of our partners have been seriously financially affected by this global pandemic. Both the event and photography industries have been forced into a sudden hiatus, with an uncertain end point. Lots of work has been cancelled, but a lot of work is being rescheduled to later in the year. Right now, many in our industries have spare time due to lost work, but when things open up again there will be exactly the opposite problem: six months worth of work compressed into a much shorter period.

The silver lining we have at this time, is the opportunity to consider HOW we are going to improve our systems and processes (all that stuff you've been too busy to think about because you were running the business).

‘Brand Relationship’, it’s a term that’s often tossed around in the marketing world and critical to the ongoing success of your business. It is a phenomenon that has churned out myriad definitions and has been the focal point for marketing scholars for decades. What does it mean? Perhaps most simply, it is a relationship generated by ‘repeated interactions between a brand and a customer that starts to reflect similar characteristics of relationships between people’. A customer is not simply a passive bottom line to business, they are an active partner in a relationship that is generated over time. This relationship is built through repeated, consistent interactions in which the customer will begin to develop a number of characteristics, perhaps the most important of these – commitment and interdependence. Understanding that customers are an organic marketing opportunity, building a successful brand relationship both reinforces this opportunity and creates new avenues of marketing.
